He served as a board director for KFB's Third District from 2011 to 2019, and was later served as a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. During his tenure, Newland represented House District 13, which included Greenwood, Elk, Woodson, Wilson, and Neosho counties in rural Southeast Kansas.
