Clarken, a prop, was born in Thames, New Zealand and claimed a total of 4 international rugby caps for Australia<ref>[http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article239177493 Australian Rugby Team (Touring America), 1912, ''The Daily Telegraph'', (Wednesday, 18 September 1912), p. 15.]</ref> His debut game was against New Zealand, at Dunedin, on 2 September 1905.

Clarken and Harald Baker (brother of R. L.
