==Player== DeRose attended Johnson State College, playing on the men's soccer team from 1985 to 1988. ==Coach== DeRose began his coaching career as an assistant soccer coach at Johnson State College in 1989. He returned to coaching as an assistant at the University of Vermont in 1991. In 1992, he moved to Illinois State University where he was an assistant until the school dropped the men's soccer program in 1994. He spent a single season as an assistant at the University of Richmond before being hired as the head coach at Bradley University in 1996. In 2007, he was named the Soccer America Magazine Coach of the Year.
