'''James P. Marten''' (born April 18, 1984) is an American former professional football player who was an offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2007 NFL draft. He played college football for the Boston College Eagles. He was also a member of the Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins
==Early life== Marten attended Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, where he played football. He was a two-time All-state Class 3A and All-county. In 2001, he earned All-Midwest and North-South All-Star honors. He also practiced the discus throw and basketball, where he helped the school win the State Class 3A championship in 2000.
He accepted a football scholarship from Boston College. As a redshirt freshman in 2003, he was the backup to left tackle Jeremy Trueblood and made his first start at right tackle against Colorado State University. In 2004, he was named the starter at left guard. As a junior, he allowed only 1.5 sacks and 3 quarterback pressures in 13 starts.
In 2006, he was moved to left tackle after Trueblood graduated, earning second-team All-ACC honors, after allowing only 1.5 sacks and no quarterback pressures. He started his last 38 games (first 25 at guard and last 13 at tackle).

===Chicago Bears=== The Chicago Bears had previously tried to claim Marten, but were beaten by the Raiders due to waiver priority. ===Miami Dolphins=== On December 9, 2010, he was signed to the Miami Dolphins' practice squad, reuniting with head coach Tony Sparano, who was his offensive line coach in Dallas. After the season, the Dolphins signed him to a two-year contract on January 3, but he retired from professional football on August 5, 2011.
