'''''Iophon''''' is a genus of sponges belonging to the family Acarnidae.<ref name="GBIF">{{cite web |title=Iophon Gray, 1867 |url=https://www.gbif.org/species/2242453 |website=www.gbif.org |access-date=6 May 2021 |language=en}}</ref> The genus has a cosmopolitan distribution.<ref name="GBIF" />

== Description == This genus contains species with non-fistulose, massive, branching or encrusting growth forms. The ectosomal (outer) skeleton is made of tylotes (long, slender megascleres with knobs at both ends) with microspined bases.<ref name=":0">{{Citation|last=Hooper|first=John N. A.|title=Family Acarnidae Dendy, 1922|date=2002|url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-1-4615-0747-5_51|work=Systema Porifera|pages=412–431|editor-last=Hooper|editor-first=John N. M.|editor3-last=Willenz|editor3-first=Philippe|url-access=subscription}}</ref> The choanosomal (inner) skeleton is a rounded, triangular or square-meshed network of smooth or spined choanosomal styles, arranged singly or with 2-3 per row.<ref name=":0" /> The microscleres include bipocilla and palmate anisochelae with spurs. Bipocilla are unique to this genus. They are modified anisochela in which the wing-like alae are joined together by a short curved shaft.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Marine Species Identification Portal : Sponges of the NE Atlantic : Glossary : bipocillum|url=http://species-identification.org/species.php?species_group=sponges&selected=definitie&menuentry=woordenlijst&record=bipocillum|access-date=2021-08-15|website=species-identification.org}}</ref> Toxas are absent.<ref name=":0" />
