== Overview == {{Unreferencedsect|date=February 2025}} With an international membership, the IAP is a private company limited by guarantee and a registered charity in England and Wales. Its objectives are to promote the ethical development of computer systems and applications. In addition, it promotes the learning of systems development to all ages.

The IAP has its head office in Hanwell, London and its Administration Centre in Nantwich.

== Work ==

The Institution has been extensively involved in the formation of the UK Cyber Security Council, becoming a founding member of the Cyber Security Alliance in 2016, which successfully bid to form the Council for HM Government. The project was led by the IET, a fellow alliance partner.

==Communities of Practice== The Institution has recently established a Community of Practice around cyber security (Cyber COP), bringing together a number of leading software developers with experience in writing secure code.

==Academic Prizes Programme== The Academic Prizes Programme is a venture with some universities where the IAP awards prizes to students for their software projects. The awards are given for excellence in design and development.
