Colyer grew up on a farm in Karridale, a small township in the south-west of Western Australia.<ref name=playersvoice>{{cite web|url=https://www.playersvoice.com.au/ingrid-colyer-didnt-think-id-make-it/#gzziJvV6SjiuqbhY.97|title=I didn't think I'd make it|author=Ingrid Colyer|date=22 August 2018|work=Players Voice}}</ref> Colyer made her debut for the Fever in 2013, filling in as a temporary replacement player at the club for the injured Ashleigh Brazill.<ref name=Bio1/><ref name=playersvoice/> She established herself as a key mid-court player at the club over the next few years, which culminated a career-best season in 2018.<ref name=article>{{cite web|url=https://thewest.com.au/sport/netball/fever-midcourt-plays-part-as-colyer-thrives-ng-b88842763z|title=Fever midcourt plays part as Colyer thrives|work=The West Australian|date=26 May 2018}}</ref> At just 165 cm, Colyer is the second-shortest player in the Super Netball league, 32 cm shorter than her two tallest teammates.<ref name=article/>
