During the presidency of [[Eliodoro Villazón]] the province was founded on December 16, 1909, with [[Viacha]] as its capital.

== Geography == Ingavi lies on the southern shore of [[Lake Titicaca]]. The [[Chilla-Kimsa Chata mountain range]] traverses the province.
