=== Russian invasion of Ukraine === During the initial eastern campaign of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the village was occupied by Russia on or about 25 February 2022,{{citation needed|date=May 2024}} and was subsequently retaken by Ukrainian forces on or about 11 September 2022 during its 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive.

== Local government == Until 18 July 2020, Hoptivka belonged to Derhachi Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven.
