==History and profile== Sir Arthur Pearson, 1st Baronet founded ''Home Notes'' with the aim of dominating the penny magazine market. ''Home Notes'' went on to compete with Amalgamated Press' ''Home Chat'' and ''Woman's Life''. Pearson founded it in January 1894 and the magazine ran until 1958 when it was taken over by sister title ''Woman’s Own''. It was published as a small format magazine which was initially issued weekly, but later changed to monthly. The formulation was to cover society gossip and domestic tips along with short stories, dress patterns, recipes and competitions.<ref name="Brake Demoor British Library 2009">{{cite book|last1=Brake|first1=L.|last2=Demoor|first2=M.|title=Dictionary of Nineteenth-century Journalism in Great Britain and Ireland|publisher=University Press of New England|year=2009|isbn=978-90-382-1340-8| url=https://books.google.com/books?id=qVrUTUelE6YC&pg=PA287|access-date=15 January 2020}}</ref><ref name="Beetham 2003">{{cite book|last=Beetham|first=M.|title=A Magazine of Her Own?: Domesticity and Desire in the Woman's Magazine, 1800-1914|publisher=Taylor & Francis|year=2003|isbn=978-1-134-76878-3|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=wvWEAgAAQBAJ&pg=PA187|access-date=15 January 2020}}</ref><ref name="Clay 2018">{{cite book|last=Clay|first=C.| title=Women's Periodicals and Print Culture in Britain, 1918-1939: The Interwar Period|publisher=Edinburgh University Press|year=2018|isbn=978-1-4744-1254-4|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=6GmDDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA294|access-date=15 January 2020}}</ref>
