Nuttall was born at Crayford in Kent in 1855.<ref name=ci>[http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/18176.html Henry Nuttall], CricInfo. Retrieved 2018-10-26.</ref> He made his first-class debut for Kent against Yorkshire in 1889 at Mote Park.
