==Naval career== He was born the fourth son of Thomas Eden of Wimbledon, Surrey, the Deputy-Auditor of Greenwich Hospital.<ref name=Byrne>{{cite wikisource |first=William Richard |last=O'Byrne |chapter=Eden, Henry (a) |title=A Naval Biographical Dictionary |year=1849 |publisher=John Murray}}</ref> Eden joined the Royal Navy in 1811.<ref name=loney>{{cite web|url=http://www.pdavis.nl/ShowBiog.php?id=176|title= Henry Eden |publisher=William Loney RN|accessdate=8 January 2019}}</ref> He was given command of the sixth-rate HMS ''Conway'' in 1832, the second-rate HMS ''Impregnable'' in 1839 and the first-rate HMS ''Caledonia'' in 1840.<ref name=loney/> His last seagoing command was HMS ''Collingwood'' from which he was invalided home in 1844.<ref name=Byrne/>

He became Second Naval Lord in March 1855 and Third Naval Lord in April 1857 before moving back up to Second Naval Lord again in November 1857 and leaving the Admiralty in March 1858.<ref name=loney/>

==Family== In 1849 he married Elizabeth Harriet Georgiana Beresford, daughter of Lord George Beresford.<ref name=peerage/> They lived at Gillingham Hall in Norfolk<ref name=peerage>{{cite web|url=http://thepeerage.com/p3266.htm#i32652 |title=Henry Eden|publisher=The Peerage.com|accessdate=8 January 2019}}</ref> but had no children.<ref name=dnb/>
