'''Hellisey''' ({{IPA|is|ˈhɛtlɪsˌeiː|audio=Hellisey pronunciation.ogg}}) is a small, uninhabited island in the Vestmann Islands, south of Iceland. It is 6 km southwest of Heimaey and 13 km northeast of Surtsey.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.heimaslod.is/images/3/33/IMG_3043a.jpg|title= Photo - Hellisey|work=Frosti Gislason}}</ref> Hellisey only has an area of 0.1 km ² and extends to about 100 m above sea level.
==Nature== The island is a bird paradise. Like other Vestmann Islands, Hellisey is also a volcanic island. A local company makes fishing tours to the island. Prior to 1960, the island also had some sheep.
==Miscellaneous== A fishing boat was named after the island. It sank on 12 March 1984. Guðlaugur Friðþórsson was the only survivor of the crew.<ref>{{cite web|url= http://www.vikingrune.com/2009/03/true-viking-grit/|title= The True Viking Grit}}</ref>
As with other Vestmann islands, Hellysey has inspired some traditional poems<ref name="BjarnareyIndex">{{cite web|url=http://www.bjarnarey.is/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=64&Itemid=71|title=Bjarnarey - Úteyjavísur|publisher=bjarnarey.is|author=Vefstjóri|accessdate=3 April 2014|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150809211919/http://www.bjarnarey.is/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=64&Itemid=71|archivedate=9 August 2015}}</ref>
