== Background and release == The album's title is a "[nod] to MAX's childhood Manhattan neighborhood", Hell's Kitchen. It was released through Pete Wentz's DCD2 Records label, with whom the singer signed the year prior. The album's sounds are inspired by his "appreciation for the punk rock mentality" and pairs "his lithe tenor with an innate sense of soulful pop".<ref name="Interview mag">{{cite web|url=https://www.interviewmagazine.com/music/max-hells-kitchen-angel|title=MAX|last1=Rozenweig|first1=Mathias|date=April 12, 2016|magazine=Interview|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160413180939/https://www.interviewmagazine.com/music/max-hells-kitchen-angel#_|archive-date=April 13, 2016|url-status=live|access-date=March 7, 2022}}</ref>
