A well travelled player, he played for eight different teams in three different leagues during his six seasons.<ref name="retrosheet">{{cite web| title = Harry Wheeler's Stats | work = retrosheet.org | url=http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/W/Pwheeh101.htm | accessdate = 2008-03-11 }}</ref>
==Career== Wheeler began his career with the Providence Grays as a pitcher, where he pitched well. He had an earned run average of 3.48, and won six of the seven games in which he pitched.<ref name="retrosheet"/> A good start to his career, but the next two years, he played in only six games for the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Stars and Cleveland Blues. He was formally converted to an outfielder upon his return the majors in {{baseball year|1882}} after an absence in {{baseball year|1881}}, when he joined the American Association Cincinnati Red Stockings.<ref name="retrosheet"/> Harry did well with the bat that season, finishing in the top ten in many hitting categories, highest among them were his 11 triples, in which he finished third.<ref name="reference">{{cite web| title = Harry Wheeler's Stats | work = baseball-reference.com | url=https://www.baseball-reference.com/w/wheelha01.shtml | accessdate = 2008-03-11 }}</ref>
He played for the Columbus Buckeyes the following season. The {{baseball year|1883}} season saw his hitting decline, and his fielding, which was already a liability, was getting worse.<ref name="retrosheet"/> This was his last full season he played. He ended his career in the failed Union Association in {{baseball year|1884}}, including a four-game stint as player-manager for the Kansas City Cowboys, losing all of them.<ref name="retrosheet"/>
==Post-career== Wheeler died at the age of 42, of syphilitic locomotor ataxia.<ref name="deadball">{{cite web| title = The Dead Ball Era: Too Young To Die | work = thedeadballera.com | url=http://www.thedeadballera.com/tooyoung.html | accessdate = 2008-03-11 }}</ref> He was interred at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.<ref name="retrosheet"/>
