As a sixth magnitude star,<ref name="Famaey2005"/> it is dimly visible to the naked eye under favorable viewing conditions. It is located at a distance of approximately 478&nbsp;[[light year]]s based on [[stellar parallax|parallax]] measurements,<ref name=Gaia_DR3/> and is drifting closer with a heliocentric [[radial velocity]] of −18&nbsp;km/s.<ref name="Famaey2005"/> It may approach as close as {{cvt|11.43|pc|ly|order=flip}} in about 7.6 million years.<ref name=Anderson_Francis_2012/>

The [[stellar classification]] of HD 134335 is K1III,<ref name="DeMedeiros1999"/> matching a [[K-type star|K-type]] [[giant star]] that has exhausted the supply of hydrogen at its [[stellar core|core]] and expanded.
