He is a research scientist and a senior lecturer in Ayurvedic paediatrics. ==Early life and career== Amarasinghe was born and raised in Alawwa, a rural area in Kurunegala District. He obtained the Diploma in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from the College of Indigenous Medicine in 1976. He then attended to Benaras Hindu University for the degree of Doctor of Medicine which he obtained in 1987. He obtained his degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the Benaras Hindu University in 1997.
