Boston was born in Liverpool. After serving in the Second World War from 1939 to 1943 (when he was invalided out),<ref name="Chronicle">{{cite news |title=Mr. G.F. Boston found dead |url=https://www.newspapers.com/article/chronicle/133377849/ |access-date=13 October 2023 |work=Chronicle |date=8 February 1958 |p=16}}</ref> he read history at Clare College, Cambridge, graduating with a third in 1947.<ref>{{cite news |title=Cambridge Tripos Results: Lists of Awards and Prizes |work=The Times |issue=1677 |date=21 June 1947 |page=314}}</ref> He played three first-class matches for Cambridge University Cricket Club in 1946.<ref name="Bio">{{Cite web|url=http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/9874.html |title=Granger Boston |accessdate=10 April 2017 |publisher=ESPNcricinfo}}</ref> Upon graduation he lectured at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, taught history at Clifton College and Oundle School, and was latterly a director of a tannery in Runcorn.<ref name="Chronicle"/>

Boston was the Conservative Party candidate for Gloucestershire West in the 1950 general election and for Crewe in the 1955 general election. He killed himself with a shotgun at his London apartment in 1958.<ref name="Chronicle"/>
