{{Short description|First woman to be licensed as an innkeeper in America}} ''' Goody Armitage''' (fl. 1643), was the first woman to be licensed as an innkeeper in America.
There is next to no information available about Goody Armitage except that she was living in Massachusetts Bay in 1643 and that when she petitioned for a license she was approved to serve meals but 'not to draw wine' making her the first woman to be licensed as an innkeeper in colonial America. Her establishment is also listed as the first restaurant.<ref>{{cite book |last1=Purvis |first1=Thomas L. |title=Colonial America To 1763 |date=14 May 2014 |publisher=Infobase Publishing |isbn=978-1-4381-0799-8 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=BZRJSx3uMYEC&dq=%22Goody+Armitage%22++1643&pg=PA41 |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{cite book |last1=Olsen |first1=Kirstin |title=Chronology of Women's History |date=1994 |publisher=Greenwood Publishing Group |isbn=978-0-313-28803-6 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=jFY3CxmHk4cC&dq=%22Goody+Armitage%22++1643&pg=PA73 |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{cite book |last1=Bridenbaugh |first1=Carl |title=Cities in the Wilderness - The First Century of Urban Life in America 1625-1742 |date=14 January 2013 |publisher=Read Books Ltd |isbn=978-1-4474-8587-2 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=6rt8CgAAQBAJ&dq=%22Goody+Armitage%22++1643&pg=PT128 |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{cite book |last1=Staff |first1=New England Historic Genealogical Society |title=The New England Historical and Genealogical Register,: Volume 33 1879 |date=September 1995 |publisher=Heritage Books |isbn=978-0-7884-0293-7 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=sakwr8R2D0AC&dq=%22Goody+Armitage%22++1643&pg=PA60 |language=en}}</ref>
