Its seat is the town of Brzesko, located approximately {{convert|50|km|mi|0}} east of the regional capital, Kraków.

The gmina covers an area of {{convert|102.57|km2|sqmi|1}}. As of 2006, its total population is 35,438—of which the 16,827 lived in the town of Brzesko is and 18,611 in the rural areas of the gmina.
