Ya'qub Lays the founder of the Saffarid dynasty of Sistan, with its capital at Zaranj, was born in 840, of eastern Iranian origins,{{sfn|Baumer|2016|p=24}} in a small town called Qornain (From Arabic), which was located east of Zaranj and west of Bost, near Khash village in what is now Afghanistan.
