==Family== Repton was the son of George Stanley Repton and his wife Lady Elizabeth, daughter of John Scott, 1st Earl of Eldon.<ref name="debrett-1881" />

He was educated at University College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1838,<ref>{{alox2|title=Repton, George William John}}</ref> and on 5 September 1848 he married Lady Jane Seymour FitzGerald, the only daughter of the Augustus FitzGerald, 3rd Duke of Leinster, who died on 3 November 1898.<ref name="debrett-1881" />

His address was listed in 1881 as Odell Castle, Bedford.<ref name="debrett-1881" />

==Career== Repton was elected at the 1841 general election as an MP for the borough of St Albans in Hertfordshire,<ref>{{London Gazette |issue= 19999 |date= 16 July 1841 |page=1856 |city=London }}</ref><ref name="craig1832-1885">{{Cite book |last=Craig |first=F. W. S. |authorlink= F. W. S. Craig |title=British parliamentary election results 1832–1885 |orig-date=1977 |edition= 2nd |year=1989 |publisher= Parliamentary Research Services |location=Chichester |isbn= 0-900178-26-4 |page=261 }}</ref> where he was re-elected in 1847.<ref name="craig1832-1885" /><ref>{{London Gazette |issue= 20762 |date=6 August 1847 |page=2876 |city=London }}</ref> However, a Royal Commission found evidence of extensive bribery in elections at the borough, which was disenfranchised in 1852.<ref name="craig1832-1885" />

He was returned at the 1852 general election as an MP for the borough of Warwick,<ref>{{London Gazette |issue= 21343 |date= 27 July 1852 |page=2072 |city=London }}</ref><ref name="craig-warwick">Craig, pp. 320–321</ref> where he was re-elected in 1857, 1859, and 1865, but did not stand in 1868.<ref name="craig-warwick" /> He was again returned to the Commons from Warwick at the 1874 general election,<ref>{{London Gazette |issue= 24064 |date= 10 February 1874 |page=594 |city=London }}</ref> re-elected in 1880,<ref>{{London Gazette |issue= 24829 |date= 2 April 1880 |page=2358 |city=London }}</ref> and retired from Parliament when the parliamentary borough of Warwick was abolished at the 1885 general election.<ref name="craig-warwick" />
