Wilson served in the Arkansas Senate from 1971 to 2000<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://senate.arkansas.gov/senate-history-education/photo-gallery-of-former-senators/senator-nick-wilson-1971-2000/|title=Senator Nick Wilson|website=Arkansas Senate}}</ref> including as President of the Arkansas Senate from 1987 to 1988.

He was convicted of racketeering and tax fraud. After his conviction he and his wife deducted the restitution from their taxes before being forced to repay the money with interest.<ref name=EoA>{{Cite web|url=https://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/entries/george-nicholas-7624/|title=Encyclopedia of Arkansas|website=Encyclopedia of Arkansas}}</ref> He was a delegate at Arkansas' 1969 Constitutional Convention.<ref name=EoA/>
