George Ferrie (born c.1962), is a former international boxer from Scotland who won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Biography

In 1982 Ferrie was boxing for the Arbroath Amateur Boxing Club[3] but switched to box for the St Francis Amateur Boxing Club in Dundee.[4] Boxing at light-middleweight he represented Scotland and Great Britain in international competition.[5]

Ferrie who was also involved in kick boxing and body building, reached the final of the Scottish Boxing Championships in 1984, 1985 and 1986.[6] He stepped up in weight to box at middleweight and represented the Scottish team[7] at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he competed in the middleweight division.[8]

He won a bronze medal[9] after defeating James Iahuat of Vanuatu[10] before losing in the semi-final to Rod Douglas of England.[11]

In late 1989 he turned professional and boxed at super-middleweight[12] but only fought in three professional bouts.[2]
