== Development == Patrick Stirling was appointed locomotive superintendent of the GSWR in 1853 and set about designing the new [[Kilmarnock Locomotive Works]] which was opened in 1856. This was his first class to be built at the works (Works Nos. 1–13).<ref name=Baxter>{{cite book | last = Baxter | first = Bertram | title =British locomotive catalogue 1825-1923 | publisher = Moorland Publishing | volume =4 | year = 1984 | location = Buxton | pages= 138 }}</ref> Most members of the class had [[Steam dome|domeless]] [[boiler]]s but some may have had domed boilers and column type [[safety valve]]s above the [[firebox (steam engine)|firebox]].

== Withdrawal == The class were withdrawn by [[James Stirling (1835–1917)|James Stirling]] between 1874 and 1880.
