The son of The Reverend George Trevor, he was born at Madras in British India. He was educated in England at Marlborough College,<ref name="MARL">{{cite book |title=Marlborough College Register, From 1843 to 1869 Inclusive |first=George Walter |last=De Lisle |page=42 |year=1870 |publisher=R.
