Fort Selkirk Vent and the surrounding landscape lies in the [[Fort Selkirk Volcanic Field]] of the [[Northern Cordilleran Volcanic Province]]. During the [[Pleistocene]] period, eruptions of [[basalt]]ic lava occurred.
