{{Short description|Nonwoven fabrics}} '''Flashspun fabric''' is a nonwoven fabric formed from fine fibrillation of a film by the rapid evaporation of solvent and subsequent bonding during extrusion.

A pressurised solution of, for example, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene in a solvent such as fluoroform is heated, pressurised and pumped through a hole into a chamber. When the solution is allowed to expand rapidly through the hole, the solvent evaporates to leave a highly oriented non-woven network of filaments.<ref>{{cite book |url= https://books.google.com/books?id=j4Iep0AKhHcC&pg=PA87|title=The Illustrated Dictionary of Textile|first=Larry |last=Operath|publisher=Lotus Press|year=2007|ISBN=978-81-89093-62-4|page=87}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title=Non Woven Fabric Making Machine |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110721233408/http://ozone.unep.org/Data_Reporting/Data_Access/ |archive-url=https://www.nonwovenline.com/Product |archive-date=2011-07-21 |access-date=2010-04-03 |publisher=Data Access Centre}}</ref><ref>{{cite book |url= https://books.google.com/books?id=0g9QjxsbqmUC&pg=PA268|title=Concise Encyclopedia of Plastics|author1=D.V.
