'''Felipe Arnold Westhoff Rodhius''' was a 19th-century entrepreneur known for his role in the logging of ''Pilgerodendron uviferum'' and the founding of Melinka in Guaitecas Archipelago in 1860. Westhoff was an ethnic German who migrated to South America from Lithuania, which was then part of the Russian Empire.

The first part of the Ferrocarril Central Andino that was built in Peru was the railway between Callao and Lima. To build this railway Westhoff was sent to purchase railway sleepers.<ref name=divisadero>{{cite web |url=http://www.eldivisadero.cl/noticia-7782 |title=¿Quién era Felipe Westhoff Rodhius? |author=<!--Not stated--> |date=July 28, 2012 |website=eldivisadero.cl |publisher=Diario El Divisadero |access-date=January 10, 2019|language=es }}</ref> Westhoff arrived this way to Ancud from where he administered a ''Pilgerodendron uviferum'' ({{langx|es|ciprés de las Guaitecas}}) logging industry in Guaitecas Archipelago in Patagonia.<ref name=divisadero/><ref name=Morales2014>{{cite journal |last1=Morales B. |first1=Diego |date=2014 |title=El negocio de la madera: comerciantes y "hacheros" de Chiloé, 1850-1875|trans-title=Timber business: woodcutters and merchants of Chiloé, 1850-1875|language=es |url=https://scielo.conicyt.cl/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0718-22442014000200003 |journal=Magallania |volume=42 |issue=2 |doi=10.4067/S0718-22442014000200003 |access-date=January 10, 2019|doi-access=free }}</ref> For the purpose of overseeing the business he founded the settlement of Melinka in 1860, the first permanent settlement in Guaitecas Archipelago.<ref name=divisadero/> Westhoff had exclusive logging rights in Guaitecas and was granted the position of ''subdelegado marítimo'' by Chilean authorities.<ref name=Morales2014/> While he held this position of authority until the early 1870s, in reality it implied few benefits.<ref name=Morales2014/>

Citing alleged analogies with the Urals, New Zealand and Colombia Westhoff believed the Chonos-Guaitecas archipelago to have great mineral wealth to be discovered.<ref name=West1867/> Westhoff was critical of the intentional forest fires and allegedly ineffective sea lion hunting techniques used by Chilotes travelling south to the archipelagoes of Guaitecas and Chonos.<ref name=West1867>{{cite journal |last1=Westhoff |first1=Felipe |date=1867 |title=Jeografía i meteorolojía chilena.-Memoria del subdelegado marítimo del archipiélago de los Chono o Guaitecas |url=https://revistas.uchile.cl/index.php/ANUC/article/view/27200/28818|language=es |journal=Anales de la Universidad de Chile |volume=XXIX |issue=7 |pages=445–450 |access-date=January 12, 2019}}</ref>
