Until 1974 it was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire.<ref>{{cite web |title=History of Eshton, in Craven and West Riding |url=https://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/12436 |access-date=15 April 2025 |website=A Vision of Britain}}</ref> From 1974 to 2023 it was part of the Craven District, it is now administered by the unitary North Yorkshire Council.

Eshton Hall is a large grade II* listed country house, built in 1825–7 by architect George Webster of Kendal in an Elizabethan revival style for Matthew Wilson.<ref>{{NHLE| num = 1167726| desc = ESHTON HALL |accessdate = 28 August 2014}}</ref>
