{{Short description|United States-Mexico border checkpoint}} {{Use mdy dates|date=January 2025}} thumb|right|Puerto Fronterizo El Chaparral '''El Chaparral''' (Spanish: ''Puerta México el Chaparral'') is a southbound vehicle crossing from San Diego into Tijuana. It is part of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. It replaced the former entry point known as ''Puerta México'' which stood immediately east of El Chaparral. The opening of El Chaparral roughly tripled the number of traffic lanes to 22, reducing wait times for vehicles entering Mexico. It is roughly in the same location as the former Virginia Avenue crossing, where trucks entering the US from Mexico prior to 1983 was located. Access is via a four-lane, temporary access road that is {{convert|0.2|mi|km}} long and leads west from the end of Interstate 5.<ref>{{cite web |date=October 30, 2012 |title=Mexico's El Chaparral crossing officially opens Thursday |url=http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/Oct/30/mexicos-el-chaparral-crossing-opens-thursday/ |accessdate=October 20, 2014 |work=U-T San Diego}}</ref><ref>{{cite web |title="El Chaparral" abre oficialmente sus puertas |url=http://www.sandiegored.com/noticias/30663/El-Chaparral-abre-oficialmente-sus-puertas/ |accessdate=October 20, 2014 |work=SanDiegoRed.com}}</ref><ref>{{cite web |date=October 24, 2012 |title=Abre EU y México nueva garita El Chaparral |url=http://www.elgolfo.info/elgolfo/nota/139037-abre-eu-y-mexico-nueva-garita-el-chaparral/ |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20141108082715/http://www.elgolfo.info/elgolfo/nota/139037-abre-eu-y-mexico-nueva-garita-el-chaparral/ |archivedate=November 8, 2014 |accessdate=October 20, 2014 |work=Elgolfo.info}}</ref> thumb|right|CBP checkpoint
