Born in 1925, he was educated at Alderman Newton's School, Leicester,<ref>”Who's Who 1992 “(London, A & C Black {{ISBN|0-7136-3514-2}})</ref> and Selwyn College, Cambridge. After a spell at Dexion, he joined IBM UK in 1955 and was successively managing director, chairman, and chief executive<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2008/sep/17/computing|title=Obituary: Sir Edwin Nixon|date=September 16, 2008|website=the Guardian}}</ref> before becoming chairman of Amersham International in 1988. A former deputy lieutenant of Hampshire, he died in 2008.
