==History==

Prior to the Norman invasion of Ireland, the Duleek Lower area was ruled by the Uí Dhubháin (O'Duane) of Knowth (whose name survived in the Downestown townland),<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.logainm.ie/en/38393|title=Baile Uí Dhubháin/Downestown|website=logainm.ie}}</ref> and the Ua Maoil Lughdhach (O'Molluwey) of Brú na Bóinne. The barony of Duleek existed before 1542 in the Lordship of Meath; it took its name from the town of Duleek <ref name="auto">{{Cite web|url=http://sites.rootsweb.com/~irlkik/ihm/baronie4.htm|title=The Baronies of Ireland - History|date=17 July 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190717210451/http://sites.rootsweb.com/~irlkik/ihm/baronie3.htm |archive-date=17 July 2019 }}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=https://virtualtreasury.ie/item/PUB-DS-3-22|title=Virtual Treasury|website=Virtual Treasury}}</ref> Duleek was divided into Lower (northern) and Upper (southern) halves by 1807.<ref>* {{cite book |title=No. 205A: Accounts, presented to the House of Commons, of the Presentments passed by the Grand Juries of Ireland at the Spring and Summer Assizes, in the Year 1807 |date=May–July 1808 |location=London |series=House of Commons papers 1808 |access-date=22 March 2010 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ADFbAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA1 }} </ref> ==Geography==
