Dion's first foray into the industry was via the R&B group Jonz, who released a record in 1999, henceforth gaining notoriety on BET's "The Way We Do It"<ref>{{cite web|url=http://enquirer.com/editions/2003/04/24/tem_ae24nextwave.html|title=Contest win puts singer on road to a career|date=April 24, 2003|publisher=The Cincinnati Enquirer|accessdate=April 12, 2016}}</ref> but it wasn't until being brought on board via an audition with Cincinnati-based producer Hi-Tek sponsored by Def Jam Recordings and MCA Records, that solidified his position as one of hip hop's go to crooners.
