== Early life and education ==

Kelley earned her Bachelors degree in 1983 and Masters of Science degree in 1987 in geology from the University of Washington. == Research career == Kelley joined the faculty at the University of Washington in 1995 and is currently a professor in the UW School of Oceanography. Kelley has been a co-chief and chief scientist on numerous oceanographic excursions, participating in over forty blue water research expeditions.
