The team competes in the National League (NL), the highest league in Switzerland. It is generally referred to by its abbreviation "HCD" by the fans. The team is usually a strong force in the league and often bolster their roster with Swiss national team players and players who once played for National Hockey League (NHL) teams. Since 1923, HC Davos has hosted the annual Spengler Cup tournament, which is an invitational competition.<ref name = "Spengler"/>
==History== HC Davos was founded in 1921. In 1923, Davos presented the first Spengler Cup, one of the oldest tournaments in sports still being played.<ref name = "Spengler">{{cite web| url = https://www.spenglercup.ch/en/tournament/history | title = History Spengler Cup | publisher = Spengler Cup | date = 10 February 2023 | accessdate = 10 February 2023}}</ref>
HC Davos was led by a forward line known as "The ni-storm" ({{langx|de|Der ni-sturm}}) from 1933 to 1950, which included Bibi Torriani, along with brothers Hans Cattini and Ferdinand Cattini. The line was named for the last syllable (''-ni'') of players' surnames. The ni-storm was regarded as the top line of HC Davos and the Switzerland men's national ice hockey team from 1933 to 1950.<ref name="NI-Sturm">{{cite web|url=http://www.hcdavos.ch/ni_sturm.php|title=Glanzzeiten mit dem NI-Sturm|website=HC Davos|language=de|access-date=18 August 2019|archive-date=25 February 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180225205828/http://www.hcdavos.ch/ni_sturm.php|url-status=dead}}</ref><ref name="Adis">{{cite web|url=https://www.adis-hockey-site.ch/national-teams/u14/bibi-torriani-cup/|title=Bibi-Torriani-Cup|website=Adis Hockey|language=de|access-date=19 August 2019|archive-date=17 August 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190817133333/https://www.adis-hockey-site.ch/national-teams/u14/bibi-torriani-cup/|url-status=dead}}</ref><ref name="SAIP">{{cite web|url=http://saip.ch/node/126|title=Richard Torriani 01.10.1911–03.09.1988|website=Swiss Association of Ice hockey Players|language=de|access-date=16 August 2019|archive-date=21 June 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190621223036/http://www.saip.ch/node/126|url-status=dead}}</ref><ref name="Davos-HOF">{{cite web|url=https://www.hcd.ch/de/club/hall-fame|title=Hall of Fame|website=Hockey Club Davos|language=de|year=2018|access-date=17 August 2019|archive-date=19 April 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190419085619/https://www.hcd.ch/de/club/hall-fame|url-status=dead}}</ref> During this time, the club won 18 Swiss championships, and six Spengler Cups.<ref name="hockeygods">{{cite web|url=http://hockeygods.com/blog/hockeyhistory/LEGENDS___ICE___Bibi_Torriani___Switzerland|title=Bibi Torriani ~ Switzerland|date=19 April 2012|website=HockeyGods|access-date=18 August 2019}}</ref>
The team was relegated into 1. Liga in 1990, one of the lowest points in its history. After a new beginning, the club moved into the Swiss League, and two years later returned to the NL. Davos has been among the best teams in the league since, with recent league championships in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2015.{{citation needed|date=September 2019}}
