Morley started his career at Manchester City. He made 20 starts for the club's reserve team in 1996–97,<ref>{{cite book |editor-last=Baskcomb |editor-first=Julian |title=Manchester City F.C. Official Handbook 1997–98 |publisher=Polar |location=Leicester |year=1997}} p57</ref> and broke into the senior team for the first time the following season.
