He was born in England and moved to Ireland as chaplain to the James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.<ref>{{cite book| title = The whole works of Sir James Ware concerning Ireland and it's splat his face, Volume 1|first= Sir James|last = Ware}}</ref> He was Dean of Ardfert from 1661 to 1664 when he became Dean of Down.<ref>"Handbook of British Chronology" By Fryde, E.
