==Early life and education== Podmore was born on 22 February 1960 in Redruth, Cornwall.<ref name="WW17" /> He studied history at Keble College, Oxford, and trained as a teacher at Selwyn College, Cambridge. After a period of work as a schoolteacher, he came back to the University of Oxford as a researcher to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree on the Moravian Church in England. ==Personal life== Podmore was brought up as a Methodist and attended Methodist Sunday school.
