==Career== He was probably the Christopher Peper who matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1583<ref>{{cite book|title=Alumni cantabrigienses|volume=3 pt 1|date=1924|page=343}}</ref> He entered Gray's Inn from Barnard's Inn in November 1587<ref>{{cite book|title=The register of admissions to Gray's inn, 1521-1889|date=1889|page=72}}</ref> and was called to the bar in May 1593.<ref>{{cite book|title=The Pension book of Gray's Inn|volume=1|date=1901|page=100}}</ref> Thereafter he was active as a lawyer in Yorkshire<ref name=HoP /> and in 1603 succeeded his cousin Cuthbert as recorder of Richmond.{{sfn|Clarkson|1821|p=xlvii}} He served town as Member (MP) in 1624, when Sir Talbot Bowes was mayor and so unable to sit.<ref name=HoP /> He also served as a Justice of the peace for the North Riding of Yorkshire between 1616 and 1628.<ref name=HoP />
