==Military career== Drewry was commissioned into the Welsh Guards in 1969.<ref>{{London Gazette|issue=45047|supp=y|page=2254|date=20 February 1970}}</ref> He was mentioned in despatches during a tour in Northern Ireland in 1987,<ref>{{London Gazette|issue=50891|supp=y|page=5016|date=13 April 1987}}</ref> and appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1990 Birthday Honours.<ref>{{London Gazette|date=15 June 1990|issue=52173|page=5|supp=y}}</ref>
In 1996 Drewry was appointed General Officer Commanding UK Support Command (Germany) and in 1997 he moved on to be Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Policy at the Ministry of Defence.<ref name=whitaker>Whitaker's Almanacks</ref> He was knighted as a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in the 2000 Birthday Honours,<ref>{{London Gazette|date=19 June 2000|issue=55879|page=2|supp=y}}</ref> and appointed commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps later that year. He retired in 2003.<ref name=whitaker/>
