It lies to the southeast of the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo village and north of Khumjung.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_27.925_86.726.html|title=Chharchung|publisher=GeoNames|accessdate=13 May 2012}}</ref> The village is located at an altitude of {{convert|4502|m}}, making it one of the highest settlements in Nepal and in the world. The village is best viewed on Google Earth at {{coord|27|55|26|N|86|43|24|E|}} which reveals areas under cultivation,<ref name="GM">{{cite map|title= Maps|publisher=Google Earth}}</ref> suggesting a permanent settlement. It is not a known village along the hiking route to Gokyo, lying across the valley.
