Faithfull was the son of an Indian Army lieutenant colonel and attended Wellington College.<ref name="Surrey">{{cite news |title=Marriage of Lieut. C. K. T. A front row forward, Faithfull was known to his teammates as "Chubby", while opponents were said to refer to him as "The Mad Bull".<ref>{{cite news |title=Daffodil, Don Deal and the Irish Thrush |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/259572675 |work=The Guardian |date=28 October 1978}}</ref> He played for the Army, Combined Services, Harlequins, Halifax and Yorkshire. Faithfull was commissioned in the Duke of Wellington's Regiment.
