He was appointed President and CEO of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) in 2006 and served in this role until 2014. In 2016, Dr. Gaffield became President-elect of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Canada’s national academy for all research fields.
