The '''Cessna X210''' (also known as simply '''Cessna 210''', not to be confused with the later aircraft of the same name)<ref name=":1">{{Cite web |title=N-Number Inquiry Results: N41695 |url=https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/Search/NNumberResult?NNumberTxt=41695 |access-date=June 8, 2024 |website=Federal Aviation Administration}}</ref> was a prototype light aircraft designed by Cessna as a potential replacement for the Cessna 195.
== Design and development == Work on a potential replacement for the Cessna 195 began in 1949. The resulting in the Model X210 was similar to the 195, sharing the latter's basic design and conventional landing gear configuration, but was powered by a {{convert|240|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} Continental O-470 flat-six engine mounted on a redesigned forward fuselage.<ref name="Cessnas">{{cite web |last=Murphy |first=Daryl |year=2006 |title=The Cessnas that got away |url=http://www.wingsoverkansas.com/murphy/article.asp?id=461 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130209114243/http://www.wingsoverkansas.com/murphy/article.asp?id=461 |archive-date=2013-02-09 |access-date=2024-11-05}}</ref> Other differences included a square vertical tail and wingtips, replacing the rounded units on the 195. The X210 also featured high-lift flaps and tubular steel main landing gear.<ref name="Phillips">Phillips, Edward H: ''Wings of Cessna, Model 120 to the Citation III'', Flying Books, 1986. {{ISBN|0-911139-05-2}}</ref><ref name=":0">{{Cite book |last=Simpson |first=R.W. |title=Airlife's General Aviation |publisher=Airlife Publishing |year=1995 |isbn=1853105775 |edition=2nd}}</ref>
== Operational history == The sole X210, registered N41695 (c/n 602), made its first flight in January 1950.<ref name=":1" /><ref name=":0" /> Flight testing did not show a significant improvement in performance over the 195. This, coupled with the demand for L-19 Bird Dog production due the Korean War, led to the program's cancellation in 1950.<ref name="Phillips" /> The X210 was not directly related to the Cessna 210 Centurion, though several design features of the X210 did inspire later Cessna aircraft.<ref name="Cessnas" />
