'''Cedric Dubler''' (born 13 January 1995) is an Australian decathlete.<ref name="worldathleticsprofile">[https://www.worldathletics.org/athletes/australia/cedric-dubler-14446988 Cedric Dubler | Profile | worldathletics.org] Accessed 21 December 2020</ref>
== Early years == As a young boy, Dubler was good at basketball, volleyball, and soccer. At Little Athletics, he excelled at every type of event including 800m, long jump and sprints, and cross-country. Dubler joined coach Eric Brown who trained him on the pole vault and Brown soon realized that Dubler was a potential decathlete.
When only 17 years of age, Dubler placed fourth at the 2012 World U20 Championships. Two years later he won silver at the IAAF U20 World Junior Championships in Eugene, setting a former Oceania Junior Record of 8094 points.<ref>[https://media.aws.iaaf.org/competitiondocuments/pdf/4954/AT-1500-M-u--0--.RS2.pdf?v=-818702313 Eugene 2014 Results] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160913073916/https://media.aws.iaaf.org/competitiondocuments/pdf/4954/AT-1500-M-u--0--.RS2.pdf?v=-818702313|date=13 September 2016}} Accessed 31 August 2016</ref> He was one of Australia's finest ever junior decathlete together with his training partner Ash Moloney.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|title=Cedric Dubler|url=https://www.olympics.com.au/olympians/cedric-dubler/|access-date=2021-10-08|website=Australian Olympic Committee|language=en-AU}}</ref>
== Achievements == In 2016, Dubler qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Dubler competed as Australia's first decathlete in 16 years<ref>[http://rio2016.olympics.com.au/athlete/cedric-dubler Cedric Dubler | AUS Team | Rio 2016] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160819113951/http://rio2016.olympics.com.au/athlete/cedric-dubler|date=19 August 2016}} Accessed 12 August 2016</ref> at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, placing 14th.<ref>[https://smsprio2016-a.akamaihd.net/_odf-documents/A/T/ATM900000_Results_2016_08_18_9e431049_cd2a_4ff4_9b3c_9995cc77c7ea.pdf Rio 2016 Results] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160904115400/https://smsprio2016-a.akamaihd.net/_odf-documents/A/T/ATM900000_Results_2016_08_18_9e431049_cd2a_4ff4_9b3c_9995cc77c7ea.pdf|date=4 September 2016}} Accessed 7 September 2016</ref> He was the first Australian since Sydney 2000 to compete at the Games and moved up to number three Australian all-time with a score of 8024, after qualifying with 8114 points.
In 2017, Dubler defended his national title and was placed 18th at the 2017 IAAF World Championships.
Dubler continued to make improvements in the 110m hurdles, discus, and pole vault, and at the National Championships and Commonwealth Games trials he achieved PBs in the 100m, shot, 110m hurdles, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m.<ref name=":0" />
At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Dubler apologized after a cameraman was nearly struck during his second attempt of the javelin throw.<ref>{{cite news | last=Cherny | first=Daniel | title=Australian decathlete Cedric Dubler nearly hurts cameramen during javelin throw | date=August 19, 2016 | url=https://www.smh.com.au/sport/australian-decathlete-cedric-dubler-nearly-hurts-cameramen-during-javelin-throw-20160819-gqwbh8.html | work=smh.com.au }}</ref><ref>{{cite AV media | title=RIO OLYMPICS DECATHLON VLOG! | date=March 11, 2017 | url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjj8tYy5hSw | via=YouTube | time=11:38 }}</ref>
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Dubler gained admiration for sacrificing his own final 1500m leg of the decathlon to act as a "pacer" and motivator for Ashley Moloney. Dubler's selflessness was acknowledged by many commentators as being instrumental in Moloney's bronze medal win,<ref>{{Cite web|date=2021-08-05|title=Aussie star's selfless act instantly becomes iconic Olympic moment|url=https://www.news.com.au/sport/olympics/where-does-ash-moloney-sit-in-the-mens-decathlon/news-story/823df8a8f035b504082c12cff0e08f5b|access-date=2021-08-06|website=NewsComAu|language=en}}</ref> and was lauded by the Australian media as one of the most memorable moments of the Tokyo Olympics.<ref>{{Cite web|date=2021-08-08|title=Tokyo Olympics: Seven moments that moved us|url=https://thewest.com.au/sport/tokyo-2020/tokyo-olympics-seven-moments-that-moved-us-including-peter-bol-simone-biles-ariarne-titmus-boomers-more-c-3627141|access-date=2021-08-09|website=www.abc.net.au|language=en-AU}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|date=2021-08-08|title=Tokyo delivered, and reminded us what really matters|url=https://www.foxsports.com.au/tokyo-olympics-2021/comment-tokyo-2020-has-delivered-the-great-big-f-yeah-australia-needed/news-story/c725a940afc0331cc23dbbeff5d59b7e|access-date=2021-08-09|website=Fox Sports|language=en-AU}}</ref> On 30 April 2022, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach presented Dubler with the inaugural Cecil Healy Award for Outstanding Sportsmanship displayed at an Olympic Games.<ref>{{Cite web|date=2022-05-01|title=Succession as President of Australian Olympic Committee|url=https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1122549/chesterman-elected-as-aoc-president|website=Inside The Games|language=en-AU}}</ref>
