==History== Although it was for decades assumed that ''Catechismus'' was printed in Tübingen, new research has shown that it was most probably printed in 1550 by Peter Frentz in Schwäbisch Hall.<ref>{{cite journal |url=http://www.srl.si/sql_pdf/SRL_2013_4_01.pdf |title=Nova odkritja o slovenski protestantiki |language=sl, en|trans-title=New Discoveries About the Slovene Protestant Literature |first=Kozma |last=Ahačič |journal=Slavistična revija |volume=61 |year=2013 |issue=4 |pages=543–555}}</ref>

==Contents== ''Catechismus'' was originally published in the schwabacher (Gothic script) and reprinted in 1555 in the Latin script.<ref name="DEDI">{{cite encyclopedia |first=Urška |last=Šavc |language=sl |title=Katekizem |trans-title=Catechismus |url=http://www.dedi.si/dediscina/215-katekizem |access-date=7 March 2015 |encyclopedia=DEDI - enciklopedija naravne in kulturne dediščine na Slovenskem |date= |archive-date=2 April 2015 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150402140929/http://www.dedi.si/dediscina/215-katekizem |url-status=dead }}</ref> It also contains hymns and a litany, all with musical notation. Based on the German patterns, they are original poems in four different forms of stanzas comprising altogether 500 verses.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://zkpprodaja.si21.com/en/Resna_glasba/KOMORNI_ZBOR_RTV_SLOVENIJA_DIR._SEBASTJAN_VRHOVNIK_PROTESTANTSKI_NAPEVI/ |title=Protestantski napevi (2011) |work=MMC RTV Slovenija |trans-title=Protestant Melodies (2011) |access-date=2015-03-07 |archive-date=2017-11-07 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171107030826/http://zkpprodaja.si21.com/en/Resna_glasba/KOMORNI_ZBOR_RTV_SLOVENIJA_DIR._SEBASTJAN_VRHOVNIK_PROTESTANTSKI_NAPEVI/ |url-status=dead }}</ref>

==Modern edition== ''Catechismus'' was released in October 2009 for the first time in modern Slovene. This scholarly edition includes both the Trubar-era Slovene and a translation into modern Slovene with scholarly notes. Similarly, ''Abecedarium'' was published in October 2008, the other "first" Slovene book. The "Pridiga o veri" (Sermon on Faith) from ''Catechismus'' is available in Slovene, English, German, and Esperanto.
