Llywelyn entered a long-term relationship, with someone other than Lee, in 2003 and the couple became parents of twins in 2004. As of 2015, the family lived together in Atlanta.<ref name=gawker />

==Relationship with the Church of Scientology== Llywelyn was introduced to the Church of Scientology by her then-husband Jason Lee, who was then a member of the organization.<ref name="annelu">{{cite news|last=Lu|first=Anne|title=Jason Lee's Ex-Wife Claims Scientology Ruined Her Life|work=All Headline News|publisher=www.allheadlinenews.com|date=April 5, 2010|url=http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7018308484?Jason%20Lee’s%20Ex-Wife%20Claims%20Scientology%20Ruined%20Her%20Life|access-date=2010-07-02}}</ref> According to Llywelyn, her resistance to becoming more involved with Scientology was a cause of problems in their relationship.<ref name="norville">{{cite news|last=Norville|first=Deborah|authorlink=Deborah Norville|title=Inside Edition|work=Global Broadcast Database|publisher=iNewsNetwork|date=May 13, 2010}}</ref>

According to her account, after she revealed to her Scientologist talent manager Gay Ribisi (mother of actor Giovanni Ribisi) that she had read ''A Piece of Blue Sky'', a book critical of the Church, she was labeled a suppressive person and shunned (or "disconnected") by her friends within the church. Her husband sent a "disconnection letter" as a sign of contempt two days after said conversation; he would ironically drop out of his involvement of Scientology 15 years later.<ref>{{cite news |date=June 30, 2015 |title=Ex-Scientologist Carmen Llywelyn blasts 'cult' and her treatment after divorce with Jason Lee |url=https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/ex-scientologist-carmen-llwyelyn-blasts-cult-and-her-treatment-after-divorce-with-jason-lee-10354415.html |access-date=May 27, 2016 |newspaper=independent.co.uk}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |last=Bueno |first=Antoinette |date=September 20, 2016 |title=Jason Lee Reveals He Left the Church of Scientology |url=http://www.etonline.com/news/198500_jason_lee_reveals_he_left_the_church_of_scientology/ |access-date=2016-09-20 |website=Entertainment Tonight}}</ref> Llywelyn's manager, a member of the Church, also "disconnected" and allegedly convinced United Talent Agency to drop Llywelyn as a client.<ref name="gawker.com">{{cite news |url=http://gawker.com/why-i-left-scientology-1703997050 |title=Why I Left Scientology |author=Carmen Llywelyn |publisher=Gawker |date=June 23, 2015 |access-date=2016-06-11 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160430201853/http://gawker.com/why-i-left-scientology-1703997050 |archive-date=2016-04-30 }}</ref>

Since her departure, Llywelyn has been an outspoken critic of the Church of Scientology. She has expressed distaste for the classist undertones of Scientology.<ref name=gawker />

She has stated the organization has harassed her, pursuant to the fair game policy.<ref name="annelu" /> Llywelyn reports being subjected to a campaign of surveillance and harassment. Writes Llywelyn: "Scientology has a sophisticated intelligence agency known as the Office of Special Affairs, which is essentially a complex system dedicated to ruining the lives of those it sees as enemies in any way possible. Those who work for the OSA do not follow the law."<ref name="gawker.com"/>
