The formation was deposited during a marine transgression in relatively low-energy conditions and locally contains calcareous concretions and fossiliferous beds. It conformably overlies older Umpqua Group strata and is overlain by the Tyee Formation. The unit is regionally extensive in the southern Oregon Coast Range and commonly reaches thicknesses of more than 1,500 feet.<ref>{{cite report |last1=Ryu |first1=In-Chang |last2=Niem |first2=Alan R. |last3=Niem |first3=Wendy A. |title=Oil and gas potential of the southern Tyee basin, southern Oregon Coast Range |series=Oil and Gas Investigations |number=19 |publisher=Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries |location=Portland, Oregon |year=1996 |url=https://pubs.oregon.gov/dogami/ogi/OGI-19.pdf |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240707113031/https://pubs.oregon.gov/dogami/ogi/OGI-19.pdf |archive-date=2024-07-07 }}</ref>
