'''Caliente station''' is a historic Mission Revival style railway station, located in Caliente, Nevada, United States. The station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the '''Caliente Railroad Depot''', and is Nevada Historical Marker number 249.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://nvshpo.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=287&Itemid=9|title=Union Pacific Depot-1923|work=Lincoln County Historical Markers|publisher=Nevada State Historic Preservation Office|accessdate=June 21, 2011|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120318102229/http://nvshpo.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=287&Itemid=9|archive-date=March 18, 2012|url-status=usurped}}</ref>

==History== The station was built by the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad (later the Union Pacific Railroad) in 1923 to serve the railroad's division point on the mainline between Los Angeles, California, and Salt Lake City, Utah.<ref name="Thomas, Inez C. 1973">{{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=74001146}}|title=Caliente Railroad Depot|author=Thomas, Inez C.|work=National Register of Historic Places Inventory-Nomination Form|publisher=National Park Service|year=1973|accessdate=May 3, 2009}}</ref>

The depot is a two-story wood frame stucco building. The first floor held the passenger waiting room, station agent's office and other railroad offices. The second floor was used as a hotel.<ref name="Thomas, Inez C. 1973"/><ref name=tn1>{{cite web|url=http://travelnevada.com/tourist-attractions/info/caliente-railroad-depot.aspx|title=Caliente Railroad Depot|accessdate=February 22, 2009|publisher=Nevada Commission on Tourism|date=|archive-date=March 2, 2009|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090302032151/http://travelnevada.com/tourist-attractions/info/caliente-railroad-depot.aspx|url-status=dead}}</ref>

The division point at Caliente served as a maintenance facility and was a base for helper locomotives. In the 1950s, as diesel locomotives replaced steam, the railroad no longer needed to use the Caliente site. Maintenance of the locomotives was moved to Las Vegas in 1948.<ref name="Thomas, Inez C. 1973"/>

Until 1997, the station saw service on Amtrak's ''Desert Wind''.

==Present day== In 1970, the building was turned over to the city of Caliente. In order to preserve the depot structure, the city moved its municipal services into the building. The station is now the Caliente city hall, library, and art gallery.<ref name=tn1/>
